LEOPARD

It’s always incredible to encounter wild leopards in the wilderness in Southern Africa, especially in Botswana, where I’m currently living with my patient and loving family. The colours on this leopard are what drew my attention.

ELEPHANT UPCLOSE

When I first started watercolour painting, I primarily painted wildlife for greeting cards. I attempted one of the most intelligent and deep elephant eyes up close on a greeting card and was happy with the results, so I painted this one on much larger paper.

LIONS

My inspiration comes from the wildlife in Southern Africa, but I also spend hours browsing Pinterest’s stunning images. The softness and love in these lion faces piqued my interest, so I eagerly painted them and greatly liked the process.

KUDU

Kudu are very wonderful! They walk with such elegance, holding their heads straight. What a pleasure to come across them when travelling through the bush! I wanted to try to capture their beauty with watercolour.

LEOPARD

My first leopard painting on a larger sheet of watercolour paper. His one is my personal favorite. He has such an inquisitive look in his eyes.

Elephant

Elephants are enormous, fascinating, and amazing creatures, and I have had a lot of trouble painting them. This painting is no different. I made the decision to attempt a more abstract style.

SPINGBUCKS

The simplicity of this painting overall, no background or detail in the animals. This is the reason that it is my husbands favorite.

BUFFALO

In order to paint looser with this buffalo, I tried a textured background. It’s extremely interesting: while the paint is still wet, you apply rice or salt to it. Once totally dried, simply brush it off, leaving a design behind.

LION

What fun I had painting this lion, I painted along with another artist on the Internet.

Elephants

A group of elephants slowly stepping out into the open casting shadows in an abstract scene.

Zebra

How I love painting zebra, I love seeing zebra, and I love hearing zebra. I love everything about Zebras. They appear to have such clean cut stripes which seem to stand out so clearly to us, yet those same stripes are confusing when seen in their numbers, an excellent camouflage to carnivores.

Elephant

Sunsets in Africa are much awaited by both visitors and natives. This elephant is an attempt to capture some of the golden tones found in a beautiful sunset.

SERVAL

The serval has a small head with large ears, quite a colourful spotted and striped coat and those long legs. In fact the serval has the longest legs relative to its body size of any of the cat family.  It’s an interesting animal but rather shy so we don’t see them very often.

HYENA

This strange animal has incredibly strong jaws, long front legs, a strong thick neck is excitable, social and very curious. One of my favorite African night sounds is the its call, whooping and laughing with excitement.Because they are mainly nocturnal they call to let others know where they are. This painting is my personal choice.

RHINO

This magnificent animal faces a bleak future due to poaching. It is poached for its horn sold for tremendously high prices. It is sadly used by some cultures as a medicine. Now there are only small pockets of them which have to be guarded with just not many seen in the wild anymore.

my best yet

This painting is my biggest one yet, A2 measuring 16.5 in X 23.4 in. or 420 x 594 mm.
My son in law took this photo on one of his safaris last year. I love the whole composition.

In Christ alone my hope is found.
